This report focused on the 2023 academic performance of schools serving students in grades 3-8 in San Antonio — specifically on how they did in getting their students on grade level based on the STAAR tests. Our analysis shows that proficiency rates in both math and reading in 70% of the city council districts in San Antonio fall below the state average. Less than half of the students in our city are reading on grade level and just over one-third are on grade level in math according to the STAAR tests.
